Moderators, please post this in the appropriate forum if I am posting in the incorrect one. I was not certain whether I should post it in Hyatt or Avis.

My Hyatt points were getting close to expiration so I needed to earn with Hyatt. I had to rent a car from Avis, so following exactly the instructions from the Hyatt website, once I was logged into Avis, I went under my preferences and changed them to earn with Hyatt, entering my Hyatt number. I also used an AWD that was on the instructions from Hyatt to use for earning with Hyatt. I rented the car and waited for the points to post. They never did post in my Hyatt account (which I desired), but I received my regular AWD preferred points (which I did not want).

A month later, I called Avis to inquire about the points and was told that I did not select Hyatt as my earning partner. I know that I did. I escalated and spoke with a manager who said the same thing. I called Hyatt who reached out to Avis who said the same thing. I ended up getting through to some executive complaint team with Avis who told me that they would get back to me in a week. Three months later, I have been emailing them daily to inquire and finally received a response that it was not that I did not select Hyatt as my partner but that apparently the location that I rented from does not participate in earning with Hyatt. This seemed somewhat odd to me because first I was told one thing and then another three months later, and when I did make the reservation using that Hyatt AWD and selecting the Hyatt info, there was no message telling me that I would not earn Hyatt points with this location.

Additionally, the Avis executive team has not been 100% clear but has implied that I must fully opt out (even if temporarily) of earning with Avis by calling Avis and having THEM opt out for me if I wish to earn with another partner such as Hyatt in the future, and then call to be opted back in if I wish to earn with Avis again.

Has anyone else had trouble earning with Hyatt using Avis? This seems like a big hassle to earn with Hyatt if this is truly the process, and since the Avis website has a page where you can simply select Hyatt from the drop down list and enter your Hyatt number, it leads one to infer that a separate phone call for a back-end opt-out is not necessary. As well, I am not certain how one is to know whether a location opts into earning with Hyatt vs. earning with Avis short of calling the location (which is very difficult to get through to - only the reservations center) for every single rental.

Going forward, what is the process others have used to successfully earn with Hyatt?
