I doubt AA is going to flex on being empaneled on a jury vs being called for service - or sitting on voir dire, for that matter. As mentioned previously, some valued flyers might be granted an Exception, and on occasion one gets an agent who is more sympathetic, but a non refundable fare or a restricted fare, I doubt it. I don’t recall ever reading a post where AA has excused for that, and in my experience it’s easier to get a deferral from the Jury Commissioner or equivalent than an exception from AA.

And once I’ve been called and agreed to serve, I’d block that time and some “buffer” time in case One was tasked with a long case. If that fell apart because of an extraordinarily lengthy and complex case, I’d try AA and possibly hope for a friendlier response. (One case I sat on went through 140+ potential jurors to select 12 and two alternate jurors, and after voir dire took two weeks to adjudicate. I’m glad I planned a month for possible service.)
