What about flying directly into Cozumel (CZM)? Lots of great villas and rather removed from the safety problems of the mainland. Tons of great, inexpensive restaurants, too.
Interesting thought. I have been to Cozumel before... I just assumed it wasn't removed from the safety problems. I shall look into it in more detail, thanks for the idea.
