He's talking about being selected to serve on a jury (thus maybe having to serve multiple days), not simply being called in to sit around waiting to be selected or not. Except for service on grand juries, juror selection for a trial is made after questioning with each side being able to excuse jurors for cause, and to a limited extent, for no stated cause at all.
