If I were to speculate, I might wonder if there was a language issue here, as it is not clear to me what you mean by "the plug unit" - are you referring to the headphone jack?

There is no such thing as a "true" Polaris route. UA labels all its long-haul routes (excepting northern South America) as "Polaris." So not sure it's fair to lecture OP for not being aware of the variance among UA's aircraft configurations.
