Going to the US is the only place in the world (english speaking or otherwise) where I've ever had any problems ordering things... yoghurt being an obvious one, coriander/cilantro another - I understand both but naturally ask for coriander by default.

That said, its not just an english issue, when the brother-in-law visited us from South America and we went to a Spanish restaurant, he found it easier to read the english language descriptions than understand what the spanish language dish names were
