The great-circle route is almost perfectly polar. The actual flight path should be somewhat eastbound in both directions. In other words, SIN-EWR should fly a significantly different route from EWR-SIN to take advantage of prevailing winds. The former should overfly the Pacific and the latter should overfly Asia.
