There are other buses to Tangkou, but they aren't leaving from Nanjing South Bus Station but from different bus station(s). There are no reliable English websites for bus timetables, the few that are out there aren't necessarily kept up.
I'm guessing the best thing to do then is play it by ear and ask at the hotel when I get there since I will have two nights in Nanjing. Hopefully they will be able to help me.
