Presumably you have read the contract to which you have agreed and learned before agreeing that AA (just like most carriers in the world, with the exception of EU carriers and those departing the EU) will not pay for your hotel and food in the case of circumstances beyond the carrier's control.
That is why people carry travel interruption insurance or they recognize that it happens infrequently and when it does, they simply pay the cost out of pocket.
I don't expect, that's why I got the travel insurance. My point was that the OP was inquiring about travel insurance for connecting flights and someone responded and implied that the airline would accommodate you.
I was pointing out that AA "accommodation" doesn't cover a bunch of things.
