It is NOT the case for us, but I could see why a household might want both cards. Let's say the husband has an Amex Plat and his wife wants independent access to PP when traveling independently. Instead of paying $175 for an additional cardholder, I would consider that coming off the 'price' of the Chase AF, going from $450 to $275, and then the card comes with a separate $300 travel credit (supp cardholders on Amex don't get the airline fee reimbursement). Now the couple is covered for DL lounges, PP, and Centurion, and the household has the option of the Chase trip insurance, or the Amex IAP, when booking flights.
