I ended up booking HKG-SFO in F on SQ. I figured I could redeem on SQ, and also *A partners. I did not realize how high their award chart is on *A partners. Another good aspect of having Krisflyer Miles is redemptions on Alaska Airlines if I need for cheaper than what AS charges.

Well there is something to be said for convenience. In my case, I need to get back to Chicago, not SFO/LAX. EVA Air does fly direct to Chicago so I could do TPE-ORD. If I go with SQ J, sure it's a nice product and less miles but then I still need to book a roughly 4 hour flight to Chicago. More hassle than it's worth.
This wasn't a comparison between cabin products or routings. But if you needed to fly from Southeast or Northeast Asia to ORD or anywhere in the midwest I'm sure BR, NH and even CX (albeit non-*A) would offer significantly better options.
