When checking in for my TK flight at TBS today I got a black business class "hand luggage approved" tag, instead of the normal red one. Seems to be a newer addition.

This got me wondering what purpose does this potentially serve? I suppose it would be similar to status luggage tags that are mostly for show-off and may every once in a blue moon help in queues, but figured someone may know better.

Perhaps TK staff are less likely to gate check luggage that shows the black tag in case of limited overhead storage space? But then again, it looks as though these are only given to J pax (with *G still getting the red ones), making this a non-issue either way.
