It seems that this thread has gone little bit off track, maybe because of my attempt at sarcasm.

I guess my point was (or could have been) is that BAEC just seems to go about their marketing efforts in very haphazard way. Instead ensuring that they send something would seem meaningful to the recipient and to them, they just send off something that ends up being stupid or meaningless.

Opposed to sending the email that they did they could have sent something quite more meaningful by using the information in their databases timely and accurately.

Let's assume that they want to sell more expensive business class seats and that I am at least somewhat interested in the frequent flyer status and benefits. If they actually mined the information available to them they would find out that I fly quite frequently through London in WT+ and continue to various destinations in Europe (either in economy or business). My flying patterns get me to silver level quite comfortably, but it's questionable whether I could reach gold level without changing my habits a bit.

Had they for example offered something like double tier points (or just said life is beautiful at gold tier) for my next cross Atlantic flight if flown in Club World they might have actually had a chance in accomplishing something. This could accomplish something for them (more $$$ and maybe conversion to frequent CW customer) and could maybe get me thinking that there was something for me as well (gold status = paradise on earth).

Instead they send something that shows that it takes over six months for them to send a "targeted" email and makes recipients think ... and check that they haven't messed my account.

Obviously there's very slim change that truly & accurately targeted email would have worked, but there's no change in hell that the one they sent would work.
