I haven't stayed in 2 or so years so this may not be tremendously helpful. The location as you said is excellent, one of my favorite in NYC. The entry-level and lower-category rooms are VERY small. Rooms are modern, lightly furnished, and makes the best use of the space, but I'd suggest a Junior Suite or up if possible. Comfortable beds. Bathroom was underwhelming from what I remember but I think this was a size thing. Service, from my brief interactions with the front desk, was cold and to-the-point. Not a highlight for sure. Bar area was buzzing even on a weeknight, which I like.
I would return but I think the prices for their rooms are out of wack given the room size + service. I stayed on a corporate rate which was a much more realistic price point. Paying for location - sometimes that is worth it.
