Special Meals on *A Long Haul - what are your experiences?
If there's already a thread regarding this, my apologies.
And please direct me somebody.
************************************************** **
As I won't eat anything I wouldn't be prepared to kill for myself (we all have our quirks!) my choices are generally limited to 'vegetarian - lacto ovo' and 'seafood' meals. I'd be glad to know if anyone can recommend any of the other options.
It's been horrendously difficult to gather enough information for an informed choice on long haul flights in Y, so I would be REALLY grateful if anyone could share their experiences. I generally travel from LHR - NRT, although I expect to make a couple of UK-USA trips soon (all Y class).
Most of the pre-ordered seafood meals I've ever had have been pretty lousy, much worse than the fish dish that is 'sometimes' offered on an airline's regular menu. (But there's never a guarantee, so I'm always forced to accept my miserable pre-ordered meal even if the next person's meal is way nicer). You might get an idea if I admit that the best special meal I've ever had was on an Aeroflot flight - the worst was a truly inedible Air France meal, which I only mention on this *A thread because it was that awful Xmas-New Year experience that made me renounce AF forever and settle on *A.
My next booked trip (LHR-CPH-NRT) is with SK, but they don't actually list the kind of special meals they provide on their website, although I believe that they don't have a Seafood option. Is the veg lacto-ovo choice OK?
I've already trawled through airlinemeals.net, but info on special meals is
pretty sparse. I really have spent HOURS picking through the internet for information with no results.
I can't be the only person with an interest, can I?
(and yes, I do generally buy a bento box, but its not always possible - and, anyway, I genuinely like the sensation of a communal eating experience on planes).
Please help!
My own tip on LH flights is never get an onigiri (rice-ball - the ume boshi variety is pretty much vegetarian) on the FRT-NRT flight TOWARDS NRT. They are really nasty. From NRT they are rather nice.
