The idea that Marriott purchased SPG for a loyal customer base, does not explicitly mean that every single constituent will get every single thing that they want/desire. To assume otherwise (or honestly, to even assume the loyal base is the only or even primary reason for the acquisition) is rather naive and quite unrealistic.
Constantly trotting out the "but Marriott purchased SPG because we are such awesome customers" to every perceived slight is growing rather tiresome.
