If the devaluation isn't material then why would Marriott see fit to create an entire LT category at all?

In other words, if it wasn't material, why is there even a LTPP? Why isn't everyone mapped to the same LT status?
You do actually understand that Marriott purchased Starwood, not the other way around, correct? People to whom "LTPP" was very important, could of course, have chosen Marriott originally for their loyalty program over many years and you would have gotten the prize.

As the famous quote goes, "History is written by the victors" (Winston Churchill)

P.S. For the record, I've been loyal to SPG and have almost no stays with Marriott, just recognizing the situation as it is, not as I wish it to be.
