I don’t think that it has materially changed your benefits. But please prove me wrong without referring to what some other group of people (who have nothing to do with you and who had other prior experiences) are getting.
What it means is that we have moved down a level in the pecking order through the addition of another level. While our Marriott counterparts did not move down, even though we may have more total nights than they do. Some of us who have lifetime UA status can be sensitive to this because the very similar change made after the CO merger did very much affect our customer experience with that airline.

Let’s not forget that a hotel loyalty scheme *owes us nothing* in perpetuity and they can choose to do whatever they like with it. And we are free to choose the next hotel chain’s scheme if we want.
Yes, but if we had that attitude that there is no loyalty, then Marriott loses out big time. They need a good loyalty scheme to succeed. And I think they do have a pretty good scheme. But it can always be better.

Chill out guys. Or go to Accor or Hilton or IHG and see how that goes.
Already done as I have top status with each of those programs. It is going as well as can be expected. But still I like Starwood hotels (and Ritz!) and will gladly continue to give them my business if it makes sense for me to do so.
