I just redeemed two free night certificates at a category 6 Hyatt. I was going to try booking an additional night at the beginning of my stay using Amex's FHR program since it offers $100 hotel credit, free breakfast, and room upgrade if available. Anyone have experience combining these two on the same stay? I imagine its unlikely they offer me free breakfast beyond the first day (unless the computer system codes it incorrectly) but maybe a room upgrade for my whole stay might be possible?

It's a good tactic, and I've had some success with it, at least with respect to keeping the same upgraded room. Highly unlikely on b'fast; and no matter what they say at check-in, I'd be sure to burn the $100 the first night on drinks or morning on spa or whatever. Whoever checks you out might stick to the letter of the law.
