As a long time very loyal SPG member (Very early lifetime platinum), I had misgivings as many did about the merger and what the new program would bring. Most of the terms seem well thought out and, while not totally advantageous for everyone, have definite pluses and minuses. One major inequity to certain very loyal SPG members does stand out strikingly. The grandfathering of Marriott lifetime platinums into Lifetime Platinum Premier is fine, but what about SPG lifetime platinums with 750, 1000 or more nights who have easily met the Marriott threshold for LTP in the SPG program. With the Marriott members grandfathered into Lifetime Platinum Premier, there appears to be no rational reason the same courtesy was not given to SPG LTP who are over the Marriott threshold for lifetime platinum. Putting the highest level SPG LTP into a lower category (Lifetime Platinum Elite) seems extremely unfair. The loyalty of the elite SPG members was one of the reasons given for Marriott's interest in combining with SPG and then, with the announced terms, those members get disrespected. I would hope this particular aspect gets reviewed by those with the ability to make this important revision and that William and the Lurkers pass along to the corporate decision makers.
