It happens. I also just noticed the comment about the Nine Zero being in a Seedy area...
I've only been to Boston a handful of times, but I don't know that I'd call the area "seedy." It's in a high traffic area along the freedom trail and across from Boston Common, so that will definitely increase the number of buskers or people trying to sell you something. The Hyatt Regency, St Regis, W, Four Seasons and the Ritz are all relatively close by in one direction and the state house, city hall, Fanueil Hall and the nice public market are in the other direction. I wouldn't consider it any more seedy than anywhere in downtown DC or Manhattan. We walked or took the trains all over downtown Boston, even at night, and always felt quite safe.
The Marriott is a little over half a mile from the Nine Zero, by the way. In an area like downtown Boston, I'm not sure you should expect much variation in such a short distance.
