I'm not sure if this should go here, or under United, but I would appreciate any help/advice you can offer.

I booked a one way flight from LAX to SKG [Greece] (through VIE) using Austrian Airlines, with miles through United. I will be travelling with my wife, and our 6 month old baby, so I booked us 3 seats so we're comfortable, and then I also paid an extra fee through Austrian to secure bulkhead -- that way we would have more legroom, and be able to use the bassinet for our baby. I made sure to confirm that the armrests are moveable, since we wouldn't want to have a 12hr flight in tight seats (and the whole point of the 3rd seat was to pull up the armrests so we can use the extra space, while the baby would mainly use the bassinet) -- they confirmed that they would move, and that the tray was in fact UNDER the seat. I later found out that that's not the case. The armrests do not move.

The 2 options that are available are to use the bulkhead narrow seats with the bassinet, or to take 3 normal seats without a bassinet (which is not an option for such a long flight).

I started thinking out of the box -- about how I would gladly give up my 3rd seat in exchange of 2 Premium Economy seats... but Austrian says that they cannot change the reservation since it was done through United, and United says that they cannot do it because they don't have availability for Premium Economy through Austrian (it's only Economy or Business). I would actually be fine paying for 2x Business seats, and a % for the baby (since the baby would just stay in the bassinet or our lap anyway) but there is no availability for that around our dates.

Any advice? I feel like I paid for an extra ticket + extra fee for that 3rd seat in an effort to have a comfortable flight, and I'm basically not going to be able to use it..
