Yes, that is among my topmost frustrating things with Citi: The old "getting declined EVEN AFTER you call in advance." I don't get that. At least your vendor accepted your card the second time. I was at a store whose policy was to swipe/insert card only once...if it was declined, their internal policy was to consider it fraud and not retry it. I begged for an exception, and finally the manager was willing to do it for me. I had Citi on the phone during the second swipe, assuring me that it would go through this time. But guess what...
As we've all come to say about Citi, some inconvenience and lost time over the years in exchange for "a few" bonus miles is worth remaining loyal to them...
