Stay Report - 4/14 - 4/15

Location: The hotel is located on the corner of Tresser Blvd and Canal in Downtown Stamford. It's just off Exit 8 on I-95 which makes it very easy to get to. The Stamford Metro North and Amtrak Station are an easy half mile walk away. Also an easy walk is the Stamford Town Center Mall and its surrounding restaurants which include a Cheesecake Factory.

Hotel: The hotel is a massive high rise structure with rooftop restaurant and a large spa. It is also pretty dated as it's been here for at least two decades and I think that's on the low side. There's an attached parking garage that's really badly designed and costs $23 for overnight parking ($30 for valet). There's also a rental car office in the hotel that rents out of the attached garage. The lobby is pretty nice and has a restaurant and a bar off it and there's a lot of meeting and ballroom space on the lower levels. The common areas are a bit dimly lit and the hotel feels old pretty much everywhere you go.

Check In: Handled well by the agents on duty at 10:30 PM. They informed the three of us (in two rooms) that the lounge was closed but we were given breakfast coupons.

Room: One in dire need of a refresh. No Smart TV and an older style bathroom greeted us (the bathroom also has a ceiling that's at most 6 foot 6 inches high which is really odd). There was also a welcome amenity set out for a Mr. Giacobbe. I'm Mr. Kunz so I'm not sure how or why that happened. On the plus side the beds were comfortable and the room is well soundproofed. Also there's no premium wifi option which is annoying.

Breakfast: The lounge is closed on weekends so as a Marriott Gold I was given a breakfast coupon which entitled me to a continental breakfast. For $5 I could upgrade to the whole buffet. There was an omelet bar, French Toast, smoked salmon, eggs, bacon, sausages and a host of cereal, pastries and breads. It was pretty impressive and worth the $5.

If you have to be in the area this hotel is still fine but it's as badly in need of a refresh as any Marriott I've been to recently.
