It's not because Hertz "won't recognize status when booked through OTAs" but because the travel provider behind the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal is either a) not transmitting it to Hertz, or b) transmitting it to Hertz and they are not applying it (I've never gotten a definitive answer as to which).
The reason it works with National (as per
the previous thread you mentioned) is not because your National Emerald Club member number is associated with the reservation, but because National associates your Emerald Club account with your driver's license and will attach your prepaid Chase UR reservation to your account automatically at the exit booth (thus allowing you to select from the aisle).
Hertz's systems are not quite as seamless, and I believe that you need to go inside to the counter to have them process the reservation, but it's one of the things on our list here at AutoSlash to try to see if we can drive straight to the exit gate with a prepaid res and see if they will associate it with our account there like National. Previous reports have indicated that it is not possible, but we'd still like to confirm to be certain. If you have any experiences to report from your rental, please do share!
