I booked a trip a little after 11PM and put it on hold because I had a voucher to use. I called AA and after several minutes (around 1120) got through to an agent who told me it had been cancelled, due to exceeding 24 hours. It seems that booking and holding that close to midnight local time causes AA software to get confused?
I waited until after midnight to try again, and was more successful that time.
I mailed my voucher to Pensacola on Apr 6, Certified / Return Receipt. On Apr 11 I got email with trip confirmation. Can't complain about that. Maybe living near Tampa knocked a day or two off the mail delivery time.
