While waiting to board AC8157 YEG-YYC last night, the GA announced that there was a new requirement from Transport Canada that requires passengers to remove their hats when undergoing identification at the gate. This is the first time I've heard of this. Haven't seen anything on FT about it either. Boarded early, so I didn't see if anyone was actually told to remove their hat.

The GAs for the two Westjet fllights that were boarding at the same time did not make a similar announcement.
