I've never stayed as a La Quinta property before, but for an upcoming stay in a few weeks the price and the reviews looked good, so I decided to book one.
Hotels.com and Orbitz were both showing a $129 rate, whilst their own website was $116 with a AAA or corporate discount, so obviously I went for their website. However get a click or two in and it bumped the price to over $200 (in fact, at one point it showed both $116 and >$200 on the same page for the same room, which they are blaming on a website bug).
So I looked around and found their Best Price Guarantee -

I then took screenshots of everything, booked on their website for $200+, and submitted my claim - asking for a $116 rate, but happy to get the $129 one.
After a few emails (including one asking of my screenshots as the hotel is now sold out, so clearly it's no longer on hotels.com) I get this doozy from them today :
The hotels.com listing is a price offered through a third party, and we cannot rate match third parties.
So apparently they have a Best Price Guarantee program that doesn't apply to other website. Despite their own guarantee page pretty clearly stating that it does...
