Believe it or not, there was a time not so long ago, when they didn't go up and down the aisles with a trash bag getting the passengers to do the work of the cleaning crews.

Your question assumes I am going to litter in the first place and have all kinds of refuse around me. I am not a pig, so no. I put things in the seatback pocket, out of my sight. And the crews can get it when they turn the plane . However, if someone makes a mess, I am not cleaning it. The stews can do that. They can go up and down after the service and pick up my empty cup. They can come and get the empty peanut packages. Hell, they can leave them there if they think their job as servants of food and beverages doesn't require basic clean up..but I am not going to do it. I didn't pay the airline so I could tidy up the plane.
