You will clear immigration, reclaim your baggage, and clear customs at SFO and wind up landside. There is no way to clear security and get back airside (i.e., to the lounge or departure gates) unless you have an onward flight or a gate pass (and I don't believe UA will give you one of those just to access the lounge).
