My experience has been that the Premier Desk folks are great, but before I had status I found UA exceptionally stingy on schedule changes even telling me there had to be space available in the original booking class to re-route me (on all UA metal)!
I have never had status with United Air Lines or UNITED and honestly I have never found them stingy with re-routes, oddly my best experience ever was with the outsourced Indian Call Center who really went above and beyond for me, I will admit that it did help that a colleague is Indian and was able to speak with the agent in Hindi which simplified the process greatly.
To this day that was the most generous re-route of my life from purchased United Air Lines Business Class upgraded to United Air Lines International First Class via a certificate from a friend to SWISS First and Singapore First without any sort of argument, was totally amazed when the agent offered it and was even more amazed that he was able to get it ticketed without any sort of issue.
