JetStar Customer Service- anyone I can contact with decision-making authority
1. Yesterday, I booked a ticket for two on Jetstar - cheapest flight (no bundles) between HBA and SYD in about 3 weeks or so.
I made major mistake; I misread the times - I thought they were a.m. rather than the actual p.m. times. So I booked and paid for the tickets. Almost immediately I went to Jet Star chat - the agent changed the flights, but for a penalty fee. He told me that he did not have the authority to cancel the ticket penalty free - but he did give me a Jetstar voucher of AUD$50 for all my troubles. So I went ahead with the change.
But I want to see if I can talk to someone in Jetstar with decision making authority and see if my penalty fee (for an "honest mistake") can be reversed. Of course, I booked from North America - where Air Canada (and I believe many US carriers) do have a 24 hour penalty free cancellation/change period for any ticket (with any type of restrictions). I do not really expect to go very far- but I would at least try to present the case to this individual.
2. I initially tried to phone customer service - but when the Jetstar chat agent came on first, I hung up on the phone (I was on hold). No issues so far.
The issue is that Jetstar does not have a toll-free number for Canadians; the US toll-free number does NOT work in Canada. In contrast, the same Qantas toll-free number does work in both USA and Canada. I believe Jetstar, like its parent company Qantas, has enough passengers from Canada to justify a toll-free number. Hopefully, the individual I talk to about the first issue has enough authority to perhaps get Jetstar to get that US toll-free number to be operational in Canada, or alternatively -- get a separate Canadian toll-free number.
