How the heck does this make any sense Marriott? It's almost like I want to stop at 48 or 49 nights next year (it's very likely Marriott would 'gift' me Gold) so that the following year I'll have WAY more rollover nights (making it MUCH easier to reach status the next year).
Yes, rollover nights are done... However, your friend would not have had 38 rollover nights as they would have considered him to be Gold and would need more than 50 earned nights before any rollover. I've been "gifted" status a few times.
