Late to the thread.
I have never ever found T5 a remotely nice place to use. It was hailed as the new standard of airports - well, they got 'standard' right... I can never quite believe what was spent to deliver an experience which is no different to T1 or T3.
T5 is the bare minimum of what an airport should be. Mind you, then I went to Miami and that set a new standard of low.
PS: If it's any consolation, I have similar feelings about St. Pancras (style style style over user experience, and Blackfriars: simply the worst railway station in the country.)
