Both my kids have accounts. A possibly unpublished benefit to be aware of, they will waive the usage requirements for minors as well, meaning if your kids go more than 2 years without flying they will reinstate the account for another 2 years without fee. Although we don't pay for travel for my kids that often (lots of mileage tix) I hope that each of them will have a nice fat account when they turn 18 to use for some for some fun travel...
