No issues with my ATM debit card in Japan last month when i left my cash behind in the hotel room. Also, money exchange there is super easy. I did mine at the airport, with no service charge at NRT upon arrival. And the sell rate an HND on the way back was the exact same rate I bought for, and they took all coins too!
