I have a bag that just fits a smaller laptop plus a few sundry items that I take if I know I’m going in a bulkhead seat or whatever else that prevents me from floor storage. I put it behind my back for takeoff and landing. It’s only uncomfortable for a couple of minutes each time. Backpack goes in overhead and I don’t have to bother w/ retrieving and stowing in flight.
