They do, but as
Keyser explains, you will have to clear your bags through Indian Customs at BOM, and the domestic area of the airport is completely separate from the international area.
You might be allowed in earlier since it's a single ticket - but you will have to check-in your luggage again - unless AI has new protocol where they would allow Customs inspection in AMD - as all their flights there arrive in the international area of the airport - so it might be plausible...

in all likelihood your immigration & customs will take place in mumbai....after that you probably won't be allowed entry into the domestic terminal till about 3-4 hours before your flight....
