I agree with the above posters, keep calling every (other) day. I had been trying to get an award ticket LAX to Berlin July 8th - July 11th for the past 2 weeks. I called the 1P line 3 times over the two weeks and there was no availability for the return (I was willing to return from any european hub and buy a flight from berlin to that hub if necessary but there was nothing ex-europe). Then I read on here about the standard international rewards desk and how most people find them to be better, so I gave it a try and she found me the last seat available (on any routing) for the return so I snapped it up!

As you get closer to departure, chances are they will release some seats if there are a reasonable number left.

I wouldn't call this wide open? With a H fare the best on offer, seems they have sold a good number of seats already?
