Thanks, all. I'm going to book the Thai-Ethiopian connection. I assume that if there is some issue with the Ethiopian flight they will just end up booking me back on one of the 3 remaining Thai flights BKK-HKG that evening, or one of the many Cathay Pacific flights if push comes to shove. I've never flown Thai or Ethiopian, so they'll both be new to me. The Thai flight is (currently at least) scheduled for one of their older 747s, I think, but I'm excited about the prospect of ET's 787.
