It really wasn't Amtrak. Williams Junction is a square of asphalt on private property on a dirt road in a forest. The only access was by a shuttle bus operated by Grand Canyon Railroad(Xanterra Corp) from their hotel in Williams. Xanterra decided to stop the service. So what would be the point of Amtrak dropping people in the middle of a forest 5 miles from town with no transportation out? The Flagstaff Amtrak station is fully staffed and in the middle of town and Amtrak arranged for Thruway connectioms to Williams and the Grand Canyon.
