I think the big selling point of Visa/ Master is that it is recognized worldwide. I don't think Hong Kong uses much of Discover. If you have Diners Club or American Express, it is widely acceptable in Hong Kong as well. It depends on where you are going to, for hotels, most major brands will be accepted. For local markets, credit cards might not be accepted.
