I rang United Airlines again and finally spoke to a very helpful chap who resolved the issue for me. They had included the "Mr" bit on my name!

If it ever does this again, it has never affected me negatively to just leave it alone. I always fly as FIRSTMIDDLE LAST and never run into problems with TSA, CBP, PreCheck, Global Entry, or the airlines - they're used to it by now I presume. The only issue arises if you're trying to find the reservation and can't figure out which combination of names they have you listed under :P Point being that it shouldn't negatively affect anything to leave it be next time so long as you can find the reservation
