I am a blue Skywards member and was upgraded from Y to J at the gate on EK371 from BKK to DXB four years ago.
There were two of us flying on the same booking and we were both upgraded. When our economy boarding passes were scanned at the gate, we were told that we had been upgraded and handed our new business class boarding passes.
At the time I had around 16,000 skywards miles (maybe more). I can’t remember how exactly how many tier miles I had but needless to say it wasn’t many. I was absolutely astonished and delighted to be upgraded - especially as it was an overnight flight.
Here are my questions:
1. Was this was an operational upgrade?
2. My e-ticket had CHK-IN REWARDUPGRADE noted in the additional comments section. Could you please explain what this means?
3. I have four flights coming up later in the year and I wondered what were the chances of being upgraded again? (I can but dream!).
Currently I have around 11,000 miles and 0 tier miles.I will be flying in Y on economy saver tickets from: EK28 GLA to DXB > EK318 DXB to NRT > EK303 PVG to DXB > EK27 DXB to GLA.
Again, I see that reward upgrade is noted in the additional information section of my e-ticket: * NON-END/SAVER/REWARD UPGDS*XXXXXX * PRICING RULES VALIDATING CARRIER EK. What does this mean?
4. Do emirates still send an email offer to upgrade from Y to J using cash in the days prior to your flight? Or does this just depend on whether Y is oversold and they need your seat?
Thank you very much.
