Definitely book a car in advance to avoid scams or just plain ripoffs. Taxi drivers at SVO are legendarily rapacious. Getting a car to pick you up will likely run $30-50 but it's better than the taxi mafia.
Alternates: The subway does not run all the way to SVO, but you can get the express bus, so-called, to the metro. I believe it goes to Aeroport station, which is about 2/3 of the way into central Moscow. There are also a regular city bus and a marshrutnoye taxi (otherwise known as a van--slightly more expensive than the regular bus, but still cheap) that go to metro Rechnoi Vokzal, the last stop on the line that runs toward SVO. Frankly, if you are not on an extreme budget, I wouldn't pick any of these options. They all take forever and involve several changes of transport, with the associated flights of stairs, potential for getting lost, etc. Moscow is not an easy city to navigate if you don't speak/read Russian. A pre-arranged car is likely to save you massive headaches.
One note: make sure you are, in fact, going to SVO and not DME. BA and LH now fly to DME, which is actually vastly nicer than SVO now and has a high-speed train link into the center of town.
