I am not here to bash DL but since I only fly UA (with its inherent ups and downs) I like to follow what is going on with DL which generally has a better reputation service wise. Question - if you use your global upgrade on a booking, then change the booking and the upgrades doesn't clear on the revised itinerary, your lose the upgrade e-cert forever? That seems a little mean spirited. Or am I misinterpreting something?
Basically, once a certificate has been used (cleared and a ticket re-issued) it's almost impossible to get it back. If you're not certain about which flight you'll be taking, you can wait to apply the certificate.
