That suggests to me an error in Revenue Management's algorithm for that flight, unless you were flying a very business-traveler-heavy route at a time of peak business travel (e.g. LGA-XNA on a Monday morning). Even so, I don't see how Revenue Management could think they would sell 12 F seats on a CRJ-900 inside of 24 hours prior to departure.
Out of NYC at least, the CRJ-900 is a great aircraft for upgrades, even as a FO. I'd venture that even if one's only status is SPG Crossover, one would almost always get an upgrade to C+ on a CRJ-900, especially since they expanded the C+ section to 20 seats a little over a year ago. 42% of the seats on CRJ-900s are F or C+. The E-175 SC that Skywest is about to begin flying out of LGA will be even better with 12 F, 20 C+ and only 38 regular Y seats, making 46% of the seats on that aircraft F or C+.
