You can ask Air NZ to separate each booking from the others, and/or separate the outbound from the return for each passenger. You'll get a new booking reference for each passenger. If a specific passenger wants to separate the outbound from the return, then this also is possible. So, in effect you can turn the current group return booking into individuals one-way flights each with their own booking reference.

Once this is done, you are all independent in terms of adding a bag, and fiddling with the booking such as changing day/time of flight - providing the fare class allows this.
