In many countries, your senior leadership is judged by where they stay. I think this is true in the Gulf States as well as Asia.
Yes, my boss was not happy with that hotel.
As for your second statement. The customer wouldn't give a rat's cracker where do we stay. Socializing after work here with the customer is non existent.
Maybe in Asia, but I haven't experienced it here.
