I was able to do the hotel fairly easily (even did it before I found this thread). The website is really particular about what you enter into the fields but I figured it out without too much trouble (well, for a Chinese airline website anyway). I used my ticket number as the reference number and just had to get my name in the proper odd format. The rest was easy.
The hotel choices I had, even in Y with no CZ status, were overwhelming (28 different options!). I did add my DL SM number to the reservation but afterwards the hotel options did not change. The 'best' was the Convention Center but it appeared to have no food or entertainment options outside the hotel property, so I picked a lesser quality hotel that was in an area that looked more interesting.
I do have a visa for China so I don't need to worry about the transit visa, luckily. I should have lounge access as a Skyteam Elite.
i don’t find the food options at the lounge to my tastes...but if you like freshly cooked Asian noodles and liquid-based meals you will be fine. Alcohol is pretty limited...very different from US lounges. If you have Diners cars or Priority Pass the Premium Plaza lounge (about 50 yards before the CZ lounge) has better food in my view, but is more crowded....I usually eat there then go to the CZ lounge to chillax!!
As Skyteam elite they will direct you to the right when you enter the lounge...you want to go left which is Business/First!! It’s not too hard to fake your way through that....imaginary friends, enter with other people....there’s usually 2-3 people on the desk, but they’re not overly officious. Upstairs there are very comfortable chairs, chaises-longes and massage chairs. There are also 2 quiet rooms and showers.
Ive stopped over half a dozen times in the last year or so and really enjoy getting out and about in Guangzhou. The metro is AWESOME!! But very crowded...all adds to the experience. Enjoy!
